Netiquette rules for online communications help guide appropriate interaction and create a pleasant learning environment. Informing learners of appropriate online behaviours will create polite and efficient online interactions.
The following outlines suggestions for a netiquette protocol for learners:
Ask for Help
Use the chat feature to ask constructive questions. Do not post offensive or disrespectful messages.
Respect the opinions of others, think before you type, consider the language you are using to and ensure it is appropriate for the setting.
Do not type only .
Do not type in all CAPITALS, this comes across as aggressive online.
Also avoid abbreviated or slang terms, for example, terms commonly used in text messaging.
When contributing to the training, stay on topic, and be concise. Time is limited. There is a follow-up procedure when the session is completed.
Course Instructors Promise to You
Listen & Provide Feedback
To listen to all comments, questions and if there are any unanswered queries the instructor will reply to your questions, while providing constructive feedback.
Encouraging you and everyone to participate. Engage with you while respecting your confidentiality.
Tips for Preparing for 'LIVE' Online Learning
Practice Using The Technology
It may sound obvious but before going live, preparation is essential. Even when familiar with the technology it is always best to conduct a test run with a colleague or friend before attending the training session.
Have a Backup Plan
Downloaded Zoom, to your phone as well as the laptop before the session starts. If the laptop is slow to respond then you can dial in from the phone. It is not ideal but it will enable you to tune into the session.
As the sessions are not recorded it is important that you attend.
The training materials delivered during the online live sessions are also available on the learning platform – you course trainer will inform you where to find the relevant material.
